New review on your business “Harbourside Seafood Bar & Grill” on MenuMania

Review: We have been eating at Harbourside since they first opened, in recent years more and more frequently. The ambiance is always very pleasant, the staff strike a happy combination of helpfulness and professionalism. Sophie for example would be an attribute to any business, greeting returning customers with extra friendliness that is always courteous and never invasive. We like to lunch late and at Harbourside we are never told that `the kitchen is about to close’ – they seem happy enough to roll out a full menu at 3.00pm if that is what is requested. And we have not yet even commented on the food!
The food is always reliable, often special and at times quite outstanding. We have never had a bad meal at Harbourside!
Apart from all the above, their marketing is very good indeed. They regularly reward returning clientele with pleasant surprises – who doesn’t want to receive a $50 food voucher for a mid winter lunch for example?
For all these reasons we find ourselves going back again and again (like today), and are never disappointed. We also make a point of taking overseas visitors to show them the best that Auckland can offer.

The harbour setting makes the ideal backdrop for some of the finest seafood fare served in Auckland.  And this starts with co-owner Jimmy Gerard buying the  raw ingredients fresh from the Fish Market early each morning.  This also helps to explain the entree of Northland sardines, a treat that appears all too rarely on menus.  Here they are filleted, panfried and served Venetian-style with currants, pine nuts and burnt orange vinaigrette.  Outstanding.

Sashimi and sushi have been served here since the restaurant opened more than 20 years ago.  Everything is expertly cooked by executive chef Phill Spathis and well flavoured, with some delightful retro touches in the likes of oysters Kilpatrick and steak Diane.

Co-owner Tony Adcock presides over the floor and deftly administers a solid list of wines that includes thoughtful concise descriptions of each.

All the tables in the large dining room have views of the harbour, but on a good day they are even better from the balcony.
